The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers is the oldest club in the world. Many times host to The Open, the course is perhaps the fairest test of a golfer’s ability to play links golf. Punishing rough awaits any errant shots but the best players will thrive. Numerous great holes, but the 10th, a 471 yard par four, is exceptional.

In July 2013, Muirfield will stage the Open Championship for the sixteenth time.

words fail me, what a course, and what a lunch. With a strong wind, deep rough, and fast greens it truly was the ultimate challenge, my best experience of golf ever. I am a five handicap yet i still went round 14 over.... ill be back

Playing at Muirfield

I played at was wonderful. The greens are tough, the rough is ruthless but it is the experience of a lifetime. Be sure to bring a coat and tie for lunch. It take advance notice and persistance to arrange a tee time and flexible planning is to your advantage. Control off the tee is a premium and knowing distances to the front of the green will improve your score. You must know exactly how far you hit each iron. Many of your shots need to be hit just short of the green to score well. It is truly the experience of a lifetime and one you will remember forever. May your drives be long and straight and your approach shots be accurate but most of all have fun and fully enjoy the course and the total experience.

This is the best course in the world by a mile! brilliant design, great greens, fairways like carpets and a great welcome by Walter and all the staff. Lunch was top class as well. The hole Muirfield experience was unforgetable. Jamie Smith

An ordinary day in May turned out to be one of those defining moments when all that is great about this game we love comes together at once. Yes, you book a year or so in advance, yes it is traditional, yes you are taking a step back to a more gracious age, but it is all worth it. A truly superb test of golf where you see all that there is to test you with greens that are probably the best in the world. After you have completed the walk down the eighteenth, where, if you are quiet, and you allow yourself to be a child again, you can hear roars of the crowds as Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson, Faldo and Els complete their victory march. You then enter the clubhouse where the history of this wonderful game is all around you. Words don't come easily when you experience it for the first time.. Romantic notions, dreams and tradition blend perfectly. Oh, and the sponge pudding is historic! A delight you must experience even if you have to travel across the big pond to do so. An ordinary day in May indeed!

The pros really had and easy time of it in that the wind blew a steady 40 mph the day we got to play the links. Definitely one of the most memorable days in my life. From the immaculate condition of the course to the knowledge of the caddies, to the lunch experience in the clubhouse, to raising the pints after our rounds ended and being able to speak with a couple of members, a day I'll never forget!

Marvelous, terrific golf course. Me & my group of 7 others played it in late June, the last day of play before shutting down for the Open. Rough was high, greens fast, hospitality from the Muirfield staff was terrific. All I can say is Wow, will be back again.
